WInter Survival Camp for Military Teens

Last year, Oswegatchie was approached by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County as a partner and host site for a “Winter Survival Camp for Military Teens. It is a grant funded opportunity; and only costs $25 per student. Oswegatchie is providing all the supervision, programs, meals, and lodging. The CCE office is handling all registrations and pre-program organization.

This 4 day camp is open on Friday, January 16 – Tuesday, January 20th. The program is limited to 30 participants.

Its open to "Youth who must have a parent(s) who is active duty, national guard or reserve.  Open to all branches of service.  We will also take youth of wounded warriors and fallen warriors."

The official listing goes as follows:
The Outdoor Winter Survival Camp is an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors during the winter. Youth will sleep in an Adirondack lodge, but during the day they will travel through the 1,200 acre forest on snowshoes and cross country skis. Youth will learn how to build shelters to protect themselves from the winter elements, learn different ways to build fires in the ice and snow and stay warm, administer emergency first aid, build a small survival kit (to take home) and prepare meals over the fire. The youth will strengthen their physical skills in preparation for a long trek to an iced over waterfall at the end of the week. Outside of these activities the youth will share camaraderie around evening bonfires and participate in leadership team building activities. The friendships and memories from this camp will last forever. The $25 registration fee is nonrefundable. -

Eligible teens should follow the link below to learn more about the camp.  You have any students that meet the above criteria and are interested in a rather inexpensive opportunity, please share this link with them.
